I was so touched to be interviewed by my colleague and Peace with Food graduate Ivona Bhadha.
Ivona is the Director of Family Services for FHE Health. Her podcast focuses on the health and wellness of families who support the brave men and women who serve our communities and our country.
In this podcast we discussed the urgent need to address burnout and trauma in high-stress professions, particularly among first responders. We looked at the importance of understanding the physiological responses to stress and the long-term effects of trauma on individuals, including the shutdown of their nervous systems.
We explored the need for gentle, small-scale exercises to help support the nervous system, and the potential benefits of music, drumming, and playing instruments in community. We also brought attention to the trauma faced by first responders, including firefighters, police officers, and military personnel, and the importance of acknowledging and addressing this trauma rather than relying solely on their own resilience and resourcefulness.
