recently had a beautiful conversation on the Quest Of Well-Being Podcast about the sacred work of healing from emotional eating and why our struggles with food run so much deeper than willpower or discipline or the confines of diet culture.
I hope you join me in listening and sensing where my words land in resonance in your own body.
I share:
Why food and love are inseparable in our nervous system: “The same nerves that help us feed when we’re little become the nerves that allow us to notice that a person has a friendly face… regulating with connection, with friendliness, with love and regulating with food are completely on top of each other for the first year and a half of life.”
The truth about emotional eating: “We cannot expect ourselves to not look for food for regulation and connection when we are missing the regulation and connection that would come from people.”
On what happens when mothering is missing: “When there isn’t a memory of a nourishing mother, there’s many other archetypes. There’s the archetype of the death mother. There’s the archetype of the devouring mother… as we grow inside ourselves, what eventually happens is we grow into our own nourishing mothers.”
And the message I want everyone to know: “No matter how long you’ve suffered, within you is the blueprint for a nourishing and easy and peaceful relationship with food… you can start moving in that direction right now.”
We also explore how I unexpectedly healed my own 25-year eating disorder through somatic trauma work, why the body itself is a source of wisdom, and what it really means to be nourished.
If this conversation lit something up or gave you a new insight – let me know in the comments below, I would love to hear from you!
